A True Teacher :
Once there lived a poor fisher man in a village on the banks of the river Godavari .He was unable meet both ends though he used to work hard from morning till night. He was not very efficient in going to the middle of the river to get the big fish which can fetch him more money. All the other fisher men who were slightly younger and energetic used to make better fortune than him. Thus ,he remained poor.
He had a son named Ramu who is very smart and enthusiastic but turned too naughty as he used to play outside his house through out the day. Many of his neighbour’s kids used to go to village school which was few yards away from their house. But Ramu was never to school as his father was unable to pay the meagre fee that was charged by the school .
Everyday the village school master namely, Rajarao used to walk through this fisher man’s house to reach his school. Everyday he used to watch Ramu playing outside his house, playing pranks on everyone and used to jibe at their loss or innocence. Once, master has decided to speak to him .So, he stopped at the corner of the street where Ramu was trying to get into a mischief with the passers by, by throwing some used dirty cloth on them and when they are trying to run away helter sketer,he started laughing. Then the  master called Ramu. Initially Ramu never responded as he never expected to be called by the school master but on listening to the repeated calls ,he hesitantly went closer to master and stood with a fear and apprehension on his face. Rajarao asked Ramu “ Ramu why are you throwing dirty cloth on those people?”Ramu arrogantly said “ Its none of your business ,it’s my wish”!Rajarao instead of getting angry went closer to Ramu and patted at his back and asked him what sort of a pleasure is he getting in chasing others. Ramu bluntly said “I don’t know”! The village school master has understood that Ramu needs education rather than punishment, so he has decided to teach Ramu daily. He asked “Ramu, will you come to school and study ? No’, came the answer bluntly ! On understanding the lack of interest of Ramu on coming to school has decided to act strategically. He said’ ok Ramu ,you need not have to come to school to study but you can to school to play as we have a spacious play ground. Will you come? Ramu readily agreed with a sparkling smile in his eyes!
Everyday morning the village school master used to come and take Ramu with him with a pretext to make him play in the play ground.First day the village school master asked Ramu to climb 10 trees and asked him to pluck fruits from fruit bearing  trees and flowers from flower bearing trees in two hours. He asked him to submit all the collected material to the security guard .Ramu was so excited with this new game.He never played this kind of game .Simple and exciting . Firstly ,he climbed the mango tree as he loved to pluck mangoes which was a herculean task as no one allowed him to climb the tree in their garden. He always used to throw stones and collect few mangoes from the ground. Now he can pluck directly from the tree,he wanted to carry as many mangoes as possible to his house. He plucked almost all the mangoes that the tree bore and climbed down with happiness to deposit to the security, suddenly a group of students came running to him and grabbed all the mangoes from him and ran away.He started shouting angrily at them which got converted to a helpless cry as no one was bothered about him and on the top of which everyone started heckling at him. Ramu was disappointed terribly and was helpless for the first time. Now, he lost the interest of climbing other trees to pluck some more fruits. He went back to the mango tree and sat sadly underneath the shade of the tree. It was evening ,all the children were leaving home and at that time the school master approached him and asked for the fruits.Ramu started crying bitterly and narrated the whole incident to his teacher. The teacher smiled and said “don’t you think the same feeling will be borne by other kids as well! Think of the incidents where you made others’ cry? Ramu realized his mistake and promised his teacher that he will never play pranks with anyone.
A true teacher is a teacher who makes children experience the learning.
